Favored is the roguelike equivalent of Russian roulette. With rabbits. Each rabbit you kill gives a chance of instant death from some sort of evil rabbit overlord, and the more you kill the greater this chance becomes. You need to kill at least 6 rabbits on each level to progress, and there are 4 levels to plow through.
Whilst Favored is very nicely presented, with an amusing variety of rabbit-slaughtering messages, it ultimately lacks much in the way of gameplay. You can reduce your risks somewhat by stocking up on rabbits before descending (and obviously not mindlessly slaughtering too many of them) but at the very basis of things it?s a matter of pure luck. Play carefully and you have a 1 in 8 chance of success. Statistics-lovers may enjoy balancing the odds, but there?s no depth to the game beyond that.
Still, for a 7drl it is a nice piece of fairly mindless fun. As the basis of anything greater it would really need to have a lot more in the way of real strategy and content. Perhaps one of the best things about the game is the simple and well-structured source that comes with the game ? worth a look for any beginner C++ devs.
A quick message from Joe of Cymon’s Games, author of the Favored:
What? No mention of the cute opening and ending animations? How many other 7DRLs treat you to ASCII lightning bolts?
Heh.

I liked the animations and all the general cuteness factors, but after watching them once I wasn’t bothered about seeing them again. In that respect it’s quite nice that they can all be very quickly skipped.

It was fun. :) In the documents, it mentions visualising as a pie graph. Maybe this could be worked into the UI in some fashion, I do not know. Anyway I am now a multiple rabbit-murderer :D

Help! I can’t fund a working link for the Favored!

Thanks, fixed it now. There are probably several links in the site that are http://cymonsgames.com/... that need to be just http://cymonsgames.com/... now, but hunting them all by hand is just too much. As long as folks let me know like this I’ll get them all eventually.
