Losing my job was a pretty big blow. But at least, I thought, I’d have some time to work on Cymon’s Games and my thesis and build up my resume. Maybe start a kickstarter to see if I could raise some to hold me over while I build the brand new Cymon’s Games. But some recruiter had a different idea. But who would want me. Clearly I’m not a very good programmer or I wouldn’t have gotten fired, right?
So a recruiter set up some interviews and I interview well so I made it through the first round… and the second round. Then came the third round and the competency test. The “can you program yourself out of a wet paper bag” question. This is where it would end, I thought. No fizz-buzz here, they had a real-world problem. And it’s in C#, I’ve only got 1 hour, and it consists of basically file I/O and string manipulation… wait, that’s not so bad. And I get Google? How can I miss? I mean, yeah, it took me the full hour to finish… by the skin of my teeth. But that’s apparently better than some other applicants. Most others in fact because I passed and now I have a job offer. It’s a good feeling.
So much for that new version of Cymon’s Games, tho. Maybe I could still do a kickstarter and just hire someone.
