Hmm, doesn't it work like that for a lot of things? Whenever you manage to understand something new (aka "learning") the brain also gives you a shot. Maybe the effect is the same as cocaïne in a lower form, but I don't really like looking at it that way. I prefer seeing it as a form of feedback, addiction sounds so negative!

In any case, let's hope I can get my dopes up for the next couple of months. Should improve my productivity. ;)

PS: After reading the comments on the VirtueCenter article, I understand some of the negativity surrounding it...

My problem with very high level languages like that, like I've said before, is that you run against their limitations pretty quickly. Most of those languages are made for a pretty narrow utility and pretty soon "nope, can't do that" becomes the mantra.

But I also agree. As much as I don't like them when the Holodeck becomes a reality it will be a very high language interface.

I don't care for Logo or Scratch either, but the concepts behind the languages (Logo and Smalltalk) are amazing. They are designed for the way human brains work and solve problems, instead of being designed based on how computer hardware happened to evolve (like Basic and C). If I were to point to a true "future language", I'd point in that direction.

Nice post. I can certainly agree with it, being a hobbyist programmer myself. It's sad to see lots of people with programming skill and not using it as their primary source of income, but that's another story.

I remember seeing a news segment on TV about online games that stimulates the brain with dopamine such as Everquest and WoW.

I gotta admit, it's a good feeling to code something. Whether it's a custom silent install of an app, custom calculator or a dynamic web page, it feels good debugging it and watching my own code execute one line at a time. At the same time, I know that either someone else has does before or some company made an enterprise-level product that does the same thing faster.

Hell yeah, it's addictive. I wonder if they still teach kids BASIC...

hampa, I'm really trying to be patient with you but all these things are question that you could have answered with a few minutes of research yourself. When this is done I'm deleting all your comments and my responses so as to not clutter things up for the future.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=asciiportal+walkthrough

Right there a video series of every level of ASCIIpOrtal being beaten. Since you want level 22 I'll be you'll find it in the video called "Let's Play ASCIIpOrtal [18-24]", since 22 is more than 18 but less than 24. Here, I'll even link you the part so you can jump directly to it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWXAa51ukPE&t=02m37s

Takes the guy a few tries but he manages to do it.

Now good luck and please do your research before you post another comment.

It looks like a template replacement system possibly using regular expressions. I know Python or Ruby can handle something like this pretty easily. The fact there's not much high variance in the individual replacements shows they're not even trying hard.

Knowing the variance in the output, though, it would be trivial to write a couple of regex's to catch this particular offending bot. At least until the author or some other script kiddie down the line decided to change it up some. But even then you could make it even more generalized.

Hmm, sounds like an afternoon challenge for me on a rainy Saturday...
