Cymon needs games…BADLY!

July 10th, 2009

To call this week interesting hardly does it justice. Chances are many, if not most, of the people reading this are only here because of an overwhelming response to the ASCIIpOrtal video. For the ASCIIpOrtal folks I’ll save the next post to update everyone on the status of that.

This post is all about this website, what it is, and a shameless begging for a hand up. If you don’t already know what this site is about… well, there’s the link.

Unfortunately the list of future Cymon’s Games is dwindling because I haven’t taken the time to hunt the net for new programs. I don’t want to have to take time away from ASCIIpOrtal to hunt for more games, but if that list gets any thinner I may have to. If you are a developer please consder writing a simple program for the site. Anything more complicated than “Hello World” I’ll gladly accept. Also the goal is to publish these programs in print, so anything too complicated will probably not work. Inbetween, probably favoring simpler. Or if you know of programs that have already been written that could be featured on the site. If you’re not sure, let me see ‘em anyways.

Cymon’s needs games…Badly. Please help.

This week’s program is by oft times contributor James E. Ward who enjoys roguelikes and long walks on the beach and who’s contributions have inspired him to try to make an arcade of text based games, for which downhill will be one. I will direct your attention to the links on the left there at the bottom of the side bar. If you contribute I will add your link to that side bar and more perminantly to Cymon’s link’s page.

Thanks for mentioning me and my project on your front page, but I would like to mention that there are several others that help Cymon keep stocked with games like R. Alan Monroe and others.

I might have to slap some more quick games together to keep you stocked up but I do have a somewhat heavy project load right now.

Trying to get codeblocks running, but trying to compile anything results in error
‘”ProjectName – Release” uses an invalid compiler. Skipping…
    Nothing to be done.’

Findude: make sure you downloaded the version of Code::Blocks that had the MinGW compiler with it: the error you have shows that you do not have a compiler…

Cymon: I would love to add some games, however I am not finished any yet. You can check the progress of the one I am working on right now here:

My new game is “His Dark Majesty”.
It is a minimalistic turn-based tactics game inspired by “Advance Wars” and “Reign of Swords” (Iphone). All the AI “engine” and battle system is already done.
