PinwheelPuzzle

September 4th, 2009

Ever try to hit something with a spinning stick? Ever try to hit something with a spinning stick while spinning on the end of a spinning stick? What about hitting something with a spinning stick while on a spinning stick on a spinning stick on a spinning stick on a spinning stick?

Pinwheel puzzle gets pretty crazy pretty quickly. The key is remembering that the speed your last line is spinning remains constant the moment you touch your goal. If you’re clever you can have the motion of two or more lines eventually resolve themselves into less motion, but once you hit a goal too fast there’s no turning back.

    Pinwheel Puzzle Programming Challenges:

o If the innermost innermost line has a child make it shrink until it disappears, then make it’s child the innermost line. Multiply the players score by the number of lines out they are when they catch the target, making the game infinitely playable, but also reward being quick.

o Add lives and deadly spots that you can’t let the tip stray into.

o Make the game leave a trail of lines (like that old screen saver) by fading the current screen before drawing the next one instead of clearing it.

o Add a distinctive look to the tip.

o When the tip is off screen make an arrow indicating where it is and how far.
