So, brave hero… You went to the Orcish Mines and got their Crystal Crown? Hah? You really think this is over? Watch for the surprise that orcs prepared especially for you…

After a long way up, with blunted sword in hand and Crown in the backpack your face was finally covered in Moonlight. However the pain from bleeding wounds was too strong to let you perceive beauty of rocky area where entrance to Orcish Mines was. There was only one way home, long way east, where human civilization lays.

A noise recalling whispers of stream, suddenly changed into a roar of hundred voices, when distant shapes spotted you. “Ooooorrrrcs!” you screamed and started to run for your life…

Rules:

Use the number pad to move. You can only move E,NE,SE,N,S (6,9,3,8,2) as anything else would be deadly.

Press ‘p’ to use magic power to teleport you east a distant equaling your MP

You are wounded and bleeding. Every turn you loose HP.

Orcs will find you by blood traces, you have to run. Orcs are chasing you from west, run east.

Run far enough to loose them and win.

Take herbs ‘?’ that grow among rocks. They add 20 HP and for a moment allow you to run faster.

Orc guards are on your way. They have different strength (A-F). A is the weakest one, F the strongest.

Kill guards to get MP. Every killed guard gives you 1 MP and a boost in health.

Avoid guards hiding by the rocks – they will catch you and throw west.

Like many games by the same author, Ooooorrrcs has a beautifully simplistic game play executed in a minimal way. In short it is a game of catch up on several levels. You’re trying to catch up with the east edge of the screen, but every move you make could push you further back from it. Picking up herbs move you a little closer, but they don’t do as much for your health as a fight with an orc. Fighting orcs helps you catch up with your dwindling health, but may push you back further to the west where you’ll have to play catch up with your goal again. The code was originally written to be no more than 1k. This version has been fleshed out a little but don’t expect to learn much about how to code from the source of this game.

Ooooorrrcs is by Jakub Debski.

It is an age of swords and monsters. The plainsmen face off against the evil horde. Knights, Swordsmen, Pikemen, and Rangers carry cannons into battle against the enemies Footmen, Calvary, Archers, and Shieldmen who bring trebuchets and are joined by Ogres on the ground and Vultures, Eagles, and Griffons in the sky descending from the mountains. It is a dark time for mankind.

His Dark Majesty is a turn-based tactics game inspired by “Advance Wars” and “Reign of Swords” (on the iPhone). HDM can be controlled either by the keyboard or mouse. First you have to choose the unit you want by clicking on it. Then the movement range is highlighted. Choose any yellow highlighted cell to move unit there. If you click on the unit again you will be able to attack if enemy is in range (enemies in range are highlighted in gray). Choose highlighted enemy to attack it. Some units are able to attack after movement. In this case the attack mode is activated automatically after move. To advance a turn click anywhere on the map and answer the question ‘y’.

The code is very simple and fast. If you choose the speed 9 and two computer players the whole battle will take a second or two.

The scenario in the first paragraph is only the default map and unit layout, but you can use the editor to make your own campaigns. You can make any unit you want on either side you want. You may want to change your default to map and unit layout to something more symmetrical. If you do make a campaign you can share it on Cymon’s Games!

His Dark Magesty is written by Jakub Debski.

Slash, a warrior of the XXVIIth Roman Legion, finds an ancient temple during an expedition to the barbarian lands. He resolves to explore it, and steps inside, only to find out it is filled with a horde of angry wolves. With an entrepreneurial spirit and knowing that wolf pelts are fashionably in vogue in Rome, he decides to try his luck.

Defeat as many wolves on your way to level 7. The more pelts you collect, the richer you?ll be when you return home. Get to greedy and you may not return home at all.

You control you character (the ?@? symbol) with the number pad. Plus signs (?+?) are health. Wolves are represented by letters. ?a?s are the weakest wolves and will die in one hit, ?b?s will take two hits, and so on. Greater-than signs (?>?) are stairs to the next level. Simply walk into things to interact with them.

Fur Hunter?s code was made to be about 1K in size, so it may not be good for learning from, but it packs an impressive amount into such a tiny space.

You play Chauncey, one of King Winthrop the Good’s humble servants. During a meal at which you are serving food, the king begins choking on a bit of turkey.

The other people at the table are so engrossed in one of Kronus Maelor (“the Evil High Chancellor”)’s stories, that they don’t notice the king’s predicament. But you, realizing the magnitude of the situation, perform a royal Heimlich maneuver on his highness, saving his life.

Although Maelor wishes you imprisoned for attacking the king, King Winthrop has a better grasp on the situation and rewards your valor by knighting you “Sir Chauncey” and giving you a small tract of land known as the Shimto Plains.

While vast tracts of land are nice, these particular tracts of land are infested with “The Horde”. Luckily, as part of your reward for saving his life, the good king has given you his mighty hordling-crushing sword, Grimthwacker with which to thwart the advance of the foul beasts.

CONTROLS
1-9 Move
5 – Place/improve fence ($1), more expensive fence can kill monsters.
c – Place cow ($20)
t – Wait for next season/horde to come

GOAL
Your goal is to reach 2000$ to pay tax to the Evil High Chancellor. At the beginning of each season you get $10 per cow. You lose when you are out of money.

The game is quite fun and the goal is reachable :)

Horde, by Jakub Debski, is a minimalistic program with code approaching 2K in size and is based on the 1994 video game “The Horde” by Toys for Bob.
